OREGON VALLEY RETREAT – AGING IN PLACE WITH DIGNITY AND EASE

Overlooking the picturesque Rogue Valley, this aging-in-place residence artfully aligns with the needs of an octogenarian couple. Spaces are designed like a spiraling shell whose central axis is the Great Room. Three substantial lightboxes rise above the cathedral ceiling to bathe the space in natural indirect sunlight. An open kitchen engaging with the dining and living areas promotes and supports engagement between the residents and care providers. Each area of this spacious center offers panoramic views, from the stunning Madrones on the lawn to the beautiful cloud-raked Klamath Mountains beyond.

The library, pantries, office, laundry, and the master and guest bedroom suites encircle the Great Room, allowing the primary living space to remain open, elegant and functional. Residents and caretakers circulate seamlessly between bedrooms and the nerve center of the home. Expansive passage between each zone of the Great Room, and throughout the home, accommodates movement assistive devices. Accessible bathing, including a roll-in shower and dedicated dressing area near the laundry streamline the family’s personal care routines. Passive solar illumination, including both traditional and tubular skylights, minimizes the home’s energy consumption.
